New Zealand is an excellent destination for people who want to live a different experience, either with friends or family, there are many places and activities you can visit and do. New Zealand is the country of extreme sports (X games) so you can ensure you will have fun during your tour.

These are 10 must-do when you visit New Zealand:

Mountain biking in Rotorua

In Rotorua you can rent a mountain bike and ride to a nearby park of unprecedented name “Maori, the Whakarewarewa Forest” which is famous for its roads that are perfect for mountain bikes. After climbing for hours to the peak of the mountain you can enjoy coming down, with all the adrenaline this means. The roads are 100% prepared for this class of bicycles although they are quite narrow and steep. Sometimes you do not even know how to avoid trees. Highly recommended.

Jump in one of the highest bungees in the world
Bungee Jumping is something like the national sport of New Zealand. There are many places where you can practise, being the best, and tallest, the one in Queenstown. There you will be able to jump from a cabin to 134 meters! One of the highest in the world.

Expecting the Geisgers and other effects of volcanic activity
There is a lot of volcanic activity throughout the entire country although one of the most famous sites to observe it is Rotorua. There, after paying, you can observe huge geysers (some explode at certain times of the day), pools of boiling mud, craters puffing smoke and we can bathe in one of the rivers with thermal waters. Rotorua is also known for the Maori culture (the native or indigenous population of the islands).

Visit Northland and drive on the Ninety Mile Beach
Northland is the smallest part of the country that lies above Auckland on the North Island. It has very interesting places such as Bay of Islands or Cape Reinga. Most tourists enjoy driving on the Ninety Mile Beach which is an 88-km long beach (despite what the name says which would be 55 km approx.) with giant dunes. It is an excellent place to rent a 4×4 and have some fun with friends.
Hitchhiking, bicycling and driving, always enjoy the road

In New Zealand the road is as important as the destination. The roads are almost always surrounded by incredible landscapes so the stops are constant. Mountains, rivers, lakes, glaciers, there are a thousand reasons to stop. Hitchhiking is very safe and many travellers prefer it. A great idea is to go through the entire southern island hitchhiking which takes around 20 days. However, renting a car or a van or probably riding a bicycle are always excellent options.

Look for new flora and fauna
New Zealand has been geographically isolated from the world for 80 million years. As a result, it has one of the most original faunas and floras in the world. 82% of the country’s plants and trees are endemic, unique to New Zealand. So are many animals like the famous Kiwi, the national symbol of the country. There are many plants, trees and animals to see and observe. Some of the animals most persecuted by backpackers are penguins, sea lions and seals. Kiwis are very hard to find.

Paddling with the kayak at the Abel Tasman National Park
The Abel Tasman trek is a multi-day excursion touring part of the coast of the South Island. If you book well in advance, you will have the opportunity to sleep in cabins and thus be able to complete the trekking walking. Another more interesting option is to rent some kayaks and cover a part of the road paddling. The beaches that you will cross are very beautiful. A curious fact is that you have to be always attentive at the time of low tide in order to shorten the path.

Do the Tongariro Crossing Trek on the North Island
The Tongariro Crossing is one of the most popular excursions in the country. An 8-to-11-hour excursion through a volcanic zone that is still active and that offers some of the most spectacular landscapes in the country and probably in the world. One of the mountains you will see is the Ruapehu, and, you’ll be surprised at the fact that it was the mountain used to recreate Mordor, the place where the main characters of The Lord of the Rings have to go to burn the ring.

Take a boat to visit the Milford Sound fjord
The Milford Sound is known as the eighth wonder of the world and is one of the most famous sites in New Zealand. It is in the Fiorland National Park and is a World Heritage Site.

It goes 15 km inland and is surrounded by cliffs of 1200 meters high from which many waterfalls fall. They usually see seals, dolphins, penguins and sea lions resting on their rocks. The weather there is quite tough so it is recommended to be prepared for wind and rain. The landscape is really spectacular.

Climb and spend the Night at Mueller’s Hut in front of Mount Cook
The best tour you can do in New Zealand is at Mount Cook Park near Mount Cook Village. The climb itself is short, but the landscapes are great. You can see a valley on one side, a huge glacier on the other and Mount Cook (the highest in the country) in front. You can see an impressive sunset and sunrise with a blanket of clouds below. You can also visit Kea and its daring alpine parrots that only live in the South Island. Natives from this area are very interesting people with many tales to tell tourists and always impress them when they first visit New Zealand.
