Plagues live in houses and many times we do not see them. These are not only harmful for people’s health, but they are also dangerous for your house, since many attack wooden furniture (a banquet for termites), or kitchens, which are like the paradise of rodents and insects.
This is why cleaning is so important to prevent infestations, by having a house protected against pests offering a healthier environment thanks to cleaning habits that are optimal.
Here we provide a series of tips that will make your home a safer place:
• Cover all holes with cement or metal.
• Get rid of all places where there is moisture, or where water can accumulate.
• Always cover all trash receptacles.
• Avoid storing those perishable foods that are not strictly necessary.
• Don’t leave food on the table.
• Be very neat when taking care of your garden.
• Be careful with the places where you make your purchases because sometimes the pests may come in containers or boxes.
• Ensure your house has a drainage system that is easy to clean with metal grilles that prohibit the passage of rodents.
• The doors should be placed at minimum space from the floor.
Another good advice is to be attentive to the presence of some type of changes, such as marks on our furniture, small footprints, very low noises, and signs in general that may indicate that there are unwanted guests at home.
Cleaning your house during vacation
This is a great dilemma that can become a problem if you are one of the lucky ones who are going to enjoy a long vacation this summer. It is evident that the simple fact of leaving your home for a long period of time can cause you to arrive in your house to find an accumulation of dust, drains with a bad smell, or other similar problems.
This is a problem that could have an easy solution, if we had a close relative who is willing to spend some time at our house while we are away, but since that is something complicated and a bit embarrassing to ask, here are some tips so that the effects of the passage of time are the least possible.
1.-Try to keep the dishes clean. Do not leave crockery for scrubbing, as over time mushrooms may appear and smell bad.
2.-Leaving clean clothes is very helpful if we do not have enough time when we return from vacation, because the next day we must go back to work, take our children to school, etc. This will be very useful for you.
3.-Try not to leave a lot of food in the refrigerator, and if there is no other remedy, protect it to prevent it from drying out and end up throwing it away.
4.-Leave all the beds made. Although it may be obvious, it is something that can be overlooked but if we do, when returning from vacation it is very pleasant to find the bed made.
5.-Doing thorough cleaning before leaving is indispensable. Cut the light, the water and the gas, so you will save money and resources while you are absent.
Cleaning the house may be an annoying task, however, we always strive to leave things perfect and perhaps spend a lot of time cleaning each corner of our home.
Here we give you several tips to keep things of daily use impeccable.
1.- Clean the base of your clothes iron from time to time to avoid staining your clothes, rubbing it with a clean and dry cloth impregnated with salt or pumice stone; then wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly before use.
2.- It extremely important to clean your microwave and other appliances since cockroaches and other pests may hide on the inside.
3.- Clean your refrigerator regularly, if possible every month, with a mixture of baking soda and warm water; this prevents the proliferation of unpleasant odours. It is also recommended, when the appliance is unplugged, to clean the grill on the back with a damp cloth to remove dust and lint that accumulate and hinder the operation of the engine.
4.- To clean the interior of an aluminium pot that has been blackened, boil it in water, fill a little more than half and put tomato peels in the bottom, the acid that they release will make the container recover its original brightness
5. Rugs and folders are also quite important and you need to clean them thoroughly, first pat it with an ice and then scrape it with a dull knife. To avoid wetting the carpet, put the ice inside a plastic bag.
6.- To erase the marks left on the carpet by the legs of the furniture, apply the steam from a plate about 15 centimetres above the area until it moistens. Then comb the fibres to lift them and let them dry.
7. To soften the laundry dissolve three tablespoons of white vinegar in a cup of water, add this mixture to the washing machine in the rinse cycle; if you wash by hand, after rinsing your clothes, let it soak with the mixture before putting it to dry. When the clothes dry it will not keep any smell.
8.- To remove tartar from the electric kettle, once every fifteen days, dissolve a tablespoon of vinegar in water and let it boil, then with a sponge, scrub the bottom.
