The Blog

We talk about pest control. Did you know that flies, ants, wasps, cockroaches and fleas are invasive species that can cause us more than one problem?

None of us are free to suffer from pests at home. Pests can arrive any time. And if your presence is unpleasant, even worse are the risks they can cause, both in terms of health and in terms of material damage.

If you want to ensure your house is safe from bugs, cockroaches and other insects, contact Brisbane Terminator today.

Therefore, it is very important to attack quickly and effectively any plague that is detected. The goal is to break radically with the life cycle of these invading animals to have them under control in the future. Come on, what has been being adopted measures for good pest control.

Starting from the basis that a plague is an excessive accumulation of different animals that can cause health and economic problems …, do you know which are the five invaders that can destroy your house? We do, and we list them, so you are aware!

Flies!

We have all seen and suffered. The fly is the generic name given to numerous species of insects, mainly those belonging to the order of the dipterans (two wings). There are also other species from nearby families such as the blowflies (larger than the fly, hairy body and severe buzzing), horse flies and mosquitoes.

Flies are part of almost all ecosystems and their presence in the environment and in human society are of exceptional importance. So much so, that there are more than 100 pathogens associated with them. Pathogens that can lead to diseases in people and animals such as hepatitis, tuberculosis and typhoid fever. Sanitation tasks are basic to control this plague. In the same way, it is essential to identify the type of fly in order to guarantee the success of the disinfection.

Some curious facts about flies:

  • On average, a fly lives from eight days to two months, and, in exceptional cases, one year.
  • Flies are in all parts of the world, except in the Artic and the Antarctic.
  • It is estimated that there may be up to 33 million microorganisms in the belly of a fly.
  • They contaminate and destroy agricultural products.
  • In 6-8 weeks a fly can create more than a million eggs.
  • Having only two wings, the flies have to pose each time for three, and because of this, in each break, they can deposit thousands of bacteria.
  • They are not all we see. That is, for every fly we see, there are around 19 more hidden.

Ants

Another of the most common pests in homes are ants. For these animals, the houses are like a five-star hotel with a free buffet, and that is exactly what they are looking for, food and waste to feed themselves.

Keeping them at bay is not easy. But if you see an ant in the middle of the kitchen, first suspect. The most probable thing is that at some point of the house the rest of the gang is waiting for it, because, except in exceptions, they always live in a colony. And second, go into action. An intervention on time – with professionals specialised in pest control – can avoid major consequences.

To do this, keep in mind that:

  • The ants access the interior of the houses by any crack, even the smallest that you can imagine.
  • Why do they follow each other? Because once a day with a focus of food, leaving a path with a chemical scent for other ants to locate and can go after it.
  • They have their nests in the most unsuspected places: grass, walls, under the house … And we speak of nests with a capacity of up to 500,000 ants.
  • They are insects that enjoy a relatively long life: from 7 to 15 years.

Wasps

On the other hand, wasps, which are present in cities and fields, are ‘double-edged’ insects, so to speak. On the one hand, they are beneficial because, being omnivores, they come phenomenally to eliminate food waste, and, moreover, they are capable of preying on other harmful species. But, on the other hand, the problem is in their bites and in the serious allergic reactions that they can cause in us.

They build their nests in the open air, using tiles, roofs, hollow structures or sheltered areas of houses and, given the size that can reach their bites, from here we recommend that if you discover one, do not try to eliminate it by yourself, but resort to an expert to perform the tasks of timely disinfection and settle the problem.

Since we are with the wasps …, we take the opportunity to say that we should not confuse them with bees. Between these two species there are several differences: bees are hairy – while wasps have smooth and shiny skin – their waist is narrower, and they usually have black and yellow bands on their abdomen. In addition, bees are a protected species and it is forbidden to carry out pest control treatments against them.

Cockroaches

From the wasps we move on to the cockroaches, which can also generate discomfort and disease, especially when they take over our homes. This is because they are carriers of bacteria that, if unlucky, give rise to pathologies such as salmonellosis or gastroenteritis.

As with other pests, the key is to start as soon as possible the methods of sanitation and other work necessary to control an invasion of these characteristics. The sharpness with which it is acted acquires special relevance with cockroaches, since they reproduce at a vertigo speed and have great natural resistance.

And in case you did not know:

  • The cockroaches enter the houses through cracks, crevices, pipes … and if we are not careful, we can put them ourselves in boxes, purses, bags of food, etc.
  • They reproduce in the blink of an eye.
  • They are nocturnal! If by the day you see a single cockroach at home, it does not mean that it is the only one.
